It's becoming one of the best kept secrets in Antwerp…. SN3 is located in one of the remaining historical cinema buildings in Antwerp. The store opened its doors in 1986 on the prestigious Frankrijklei, not far from the Opera House. Before the fashion store opened, the building housed the Odeon cinema, known as the cinema for the elite, showing mostly French movies.
The Odeon was designed by architect Francois Dens and opened in 1912. In 1927 it was re-named Studio 48, after its street address. It had a seating capacity of 600. It was renamed Cine VOG in the 1940’s. Taken over by Georges Heylen in 1952 it was remodelled to the plans of architect Rie Haan and renamed Odeon Cinema again.
In the eighties Odeon changed their movie selection and started to show more soft-erotic movies such as Bilitis, Emmanuelle, Gwendoline, etc. With movie titles such as Happy Hooker, Caligula and Erotic dreams of Cleopatra, it soon lost its reputation as a cinema for the elite.
It closed on 28th September 1985.
By March 1986, the building had been converted into the SN3 clothing store, using both the front and a rear entrance at Kipdorpvest 37, as is the case today.
